All Aboard! Unlocking Genealogical Clues in Passenger Travel & Transportation Records
A Comprehensive 10-Week Journey Through Passenger and Transportation Records
Running from January 12 through March 16, 2026, this high-intermediate course offers genealogists the opportunity to explore railroad, steamship, bus, and other passenger travel records that shaped the movement of people across America. Each Monday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Mountain Time, you’ll dive into the fascinating world of transportation records—sources that often hold the missing links to family stories.
What Makes Passenger & Transportation Records Special?
Transportation records go far beyond travel itineraries—they open windows into migration, commerce, and community life. This course will show you how to:
- Discover hidden passenger lists, manifests, and ticket registers.
- Trace ancestors through railroad employment files and accident reports.
- Connect families to migration routes and settlement patterns.
- Understand how commercial transportation shaped economic and social history.
Expert Instructors Guide Your Research
The course is coordinated by Pamela Vittorio, MA, PLCS, a professional genealogist and educator specializing in transportation records, migration, and problem-solving methods.
She is joined by Annette Burke Lyttle, CG, MA, who will guide participants in working with maps, gazetteers, and transportation-related records, helping genealogists connect geography with family history.
Together, they will provide expert instruction, engaging case studies, and hands-on practice to deepen your ability to use these valuable sources in your own research.
