We all have family stories that have been passed down through the generations. Some accounts are true with missing details, some narratives are idealized versions of the past, and some are rumors that have morphed over the decades. Using the Henry and Eliza Perrin Channel family tales, we will discover where to look for reliable records and how to use research methodologies and modern technologies to validate, add to, or disprove our family lore.

Claudia Sudweeks grew up in the Washington, D.C. area, where she learned to love history and historic preservation. She has loved genealogy since she was a child, taking classes in college and helping others with family history in the 30+ years since, professionally taking clients since 2010. She is a research manager for a small genealogy company, researching for clients with ancestry around the world. Claudia anticipates having her AG credentials in the US Mid-Atlantic region soon, having passed the first three levels. UGA’s focus on genealogical education is why she serves as a UGA board member, assisting as UGA’s NGS delegate and on the Webinar and Crossroads committees. She also serves as the president of her community's historical society. She loves family – past, present, and future – enjoying every minute with her husband, children (including their bonus children), and grandchildren.

Ariana Franco is a professional genealogist who specializes in Southern Italian research, naturalization records, and New England localities. Recently she has expanded into the chain migrations of Sicilians to the Heartland States. She began researching in late 2020 to uncover and discover who she belongs to. She quickly realized her ancestors were complex and indirect in the paper trails they left behind pushing her towards educational development. She holds certificates of completion from Boston University for Genealogical Research, GenProof, ProGen, GRIP, IGHR, and SLIG to name a few. Her research uses the Genealogical Proof Standard as an evaluation tool. She holds a BFA in sculpture from Ringling College of Art and Design and uses her creative skills to create presentations and family narratives. Originally from Boston, Ariana grew up in Florida, studied in Providence, Rhode Island, lived in Colorado, and has recently returned to Miami, Florida. She is a participating member of an NGSQ study group, the Genealogical Society of Greater Miami, Italian Genealogical Group, and Association of Professional Genealogists including the Colorado and New England chapters.
